Hi guys,
I know it's been quite a while since my last post but I've been wanting to tell you guys about the most amazing weekend break myself and my boyfriend had a couple of months ago. We stayed at the MacDonald Hotel and Spa in Cheshire, as a graduation gift from his parents. It was so relaxing and so so beautiful. I thought I would just show you guys some photos from our time there and talk about our stay.
The Grounds
The hotel had this calming aura about it and it was beautifully decorated inside and outside. I didn't take half as many photos as I would have like to but I got a few of the hotel and our view.
The grounds of the hotel were stunning, one the right hand side of the hotel there was this little bridge that takes you to the business building that the hotel has and to the spa and the swimming pool.
The sky was the prettiest, and in my opinion make the photo look better. James is slowly learning how to be the best Instagram photographer, I loved this one!
The whole area outside, was surrounded with these beautiful forest tree's and it did feel like the hotel was tucked away nicely and gave off such a peaceful feel, but in reality right outside of the driveway up to the hotel there is a main road and a chain restaurant down the road, which I find quite funny, as you wouldn't think this at all because of how quiet the whole grounds are.
Our Room
When we arrived there was a little wait for our room as we did arrive early and rooms are usually ready at round 3pm. We sat in the bar which again, I didn't take a photo of and I'm so sad I didn't, but it was so lovely, the colour scheme was a dark brown with low lights and a door leading through to a conservatory which then leads through to the restaurant. We sat for around 20 minutes had a little snack and a drink and then when we checked in, we actually had a room upgrade! We originally had a standard room booked from what I could tell, as it was a gift, which was a double bed, dressing table and mirror. tv, drawer and wardrobe space and a standard on-suite. We came into our upgraded room and we had a walkway into the room, so as we opened the first door with the keycard, there was another door and small walkway, then we entered our room and there was everything you would have in the standard room but it was tripled in size. The bed was so big and super comfortable, the on-suite was so white and so minimal, I loved it! The products we had were Elemis too! How lovely! We also had the cutest coffee table with two armchairs either side, a couch, yes, a couch, and the most incredible view.
The Facilities
There were tea and coffee facilities and James was extra excited that the coffee were Nespresso pods, haha. I however, drank ALL the tea because why not. We went for a swim in the pool, and it was super relaxing, there was a sky light in there and the views outside were very forest-like again, it was so so calming. James took a little nap on the sun lounger. At the back of the pool there was a little door that we noticed and that was this huge room that had power showers, a steam room, a sauna, a second steam room that used a menthol steam so that was incredible, foot spa's and a huge bucket filled with ice to cool yourself down after the saunas. We payed extra to be able to go in here, and it was definitely worth it.
The restaurant was literally down the hall to where our
room was and it was beautiful. Dimly lit so it was very romantic, it felt so cozy too. We asked about a vegan/vegetarian menu the day before and the lovely receptionist informed me that when guests have a dietary requirement the chef will prepare a menu for you to choose from, which I thought was so great as it meant you still had options on what you wanted to eat rather than just one or two things or having to change a meal and make substitutes. We had mediterranean vegetables in a grilled pepper with green beans and potatoes, and it was so yummy! Then we had a vegan eton mess for dessert, which was good but if you don't like intensely sweet desserts I wouldn't choose this and thats only because of how sweet it was, still yummy though.
The next morning at breakfast we sat in the conservatory and had the most dreamy view (see first photo) and it was a buffet style breakfast and the waitress asked if we would like the chef to prepare a whole vegetarian breakfast for us, or just some vegetarian sausages and then we could help ourselves to the other hot food, and the continental side of the breakfast, which we did. I essentially had a three course breakfast; Apple Juice and Coco Pops, followed by tea and banana bread and then more tea and vegetarian sausages with all the other veggie full english items. Delicious, and this also lead me to make my own banana bread (see Instagram) theirs was way better.
After our breakfast we had a few hours before we were getting picked up so we took another trip to the pool, had another visit to the steam and sauna rooms and then we sat in the cafe area which overlooks the entrance to the spa building and the swimming pool. We had a drink and a little snack before leaving.
Such an incredible Hotel
My overall experience of this hotel was incredible. It was so relaxing and calming and proves you don't need to do something so energetic and full on to celebrate something, spa breaks are now something I want to do more often. The place was outstandingly clean, the staff could no
t have done any more and the setting, well you know, that was favourite thing.
Check out my Instagram for other pictures from my visit and let me know your favourite hotel or somewhere you've always wanted to go.
Lots of love,
